In this home return match our teams faced some very strong opposition. Maureen Kitchen, Ali Richards & Janet Doe overcame Buckhurst Hill's early lead where they had scored four points on end 3 and Hainault went into the eleventh end leading 10- 7. In the remaining ends it was nip and tuck throughout with the lead swapping between the two sides until the final end where Buckhurst Hill scored a decisive four points to win the match 19 - 14.
Our other team, Molly Edwards, Sandy Cook & Linda Shepherd fought hard and were all square by the fifteenth end. However, Buckhurst Hill scored four points in two of the remaining three ends to run out eventual winners 22 - 13.
Our two teams played well against some very good Buckhurst Hill players. Everybody had a pleasant afternoon but in terms of results it was disappointment for Hainault Ladies.
In this away match we agreed to play 14 ends as the sun was getting hotter although we did have an occasional breeze which was welcome.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to secure any points this afternoon.
On rink 1, our team was Mollie, Janet and Linda. They played exceptionally well and led throughout the match until Buckhurst Hill leveled the score on the thirteenth end. The final fourteenth end was the decider and we lost that by a single point with the final score 11 - 12. How frustrating!!
On rink 2 we had Sandy, Bev & Loraine (shared game) and Karol O’Brien. The match was close but Hainault kept their noses in front until the penultimate end. By the twelfth end the score was 9 - 7 to Hainault then Buckhurst Hill scored a six on the thirteenth end and we weren’t able to make those six points up in the final fourteenth end. The final score ending 9 - 15.
Well played ladies.
Our next league game (AS/EP) is away to Wanstead Central on Wednesday 12th August.
Unfortunately, we were the second team on both rinks, although rink 2 only just lost out on points. Both rinks played very well, it just wasn’t our day and the score sheets didn’t really reflect how well Hainault ladies bowled.
On rink 2 Hainault were represented by Molly Edwards, Janet Doe & Linda Shepherd whilst on rink 3 the Hainault team were Roz Kaizer, Bev Higgins & Karol O'Brien.
Our next league game (Barnes) is away to Buckhurst Hill on Wednesday 5th August.
NO LEAGUE GAMES NEXT WEEK, so ladies please try to fit in your club competition games.
Given our Ladies teams have had no league game since the 1st of July and coupled with the hot weather, Silverthorn provided a tough challenge for the home team. However Hainault players kept their cool, were calm and composed and eventually achieved the result they duly deserved watched by a small but enthusiastic crowd. Hainault won on both rinks but both games were extremely close and the Silverthorn teams put up a determined fight throughout both matches.
Winning Hainault Ladies captain Karol O’Brien said “I’m immensely proud of each one of you. We played as a team and won as a team. Well played ladies”
On rink 2 Hainault were represented by Karol O’Brien, Roz Kaizer & Ali Richards whilst on rink 3 Janet Doe, Mollie Edwards & Linda Shepherd played for Hainault.
Our next match is at home on Wednesday 22nd July 2:30pm versus Wanstead Central in the Barnes league competition,
🔴 Wednesday 20 May. The second ladies home Barnes league game was the return match with Woodford played at home. The weather held out for us but unfortunately we were second best on both rinks. Well done to Woodford and hopefully we will have better luck in our next league game against Loughton in the Albert Shield & Ernstein Plate (As/Ep). Our teams today were Team 1 Karol, Bev,& Ali Team 2 Sandy, Roz, & Janet.
The first ladies Barnes league game this season was an away match against Woodford. The weather was mixed and we played in sunshine, wind, rain, hailstones but thankfully when the thunder & lighting arrived we had just finished. Well done to both teams. Team 1 Bev, Janet, Karol, Team 2 Joyce, Molly, Linda. We won on one rink and secured two points.
Two teams played Connaught at home on Monday 17 August. Each team included one gentleman as we were short of lady players, thanks to Alan and Steve for stepping in. On rink four Sandy Cook, Ali Richards, Steve O'Brien & Karol O'Brien were level pegging with Connaught up to the tenth end. Connaught surged ahead in the eleventh end scoring four points. Despite some spirited play from Hainault we were unable to overcome the deficit and Connaught ran out winners 17 - 10.
On rink five Molly Edwards, Janet Doe, Linda Shepherd & Alan Bayliss again were neck and neck with Connaught until the eleventh end when Connaught scored five points. This proved to be decisive and despite Hainault's efforts we only managed to score two points in the remaining ends whilst Connaught built steadily on their lead running out eventual winners 26 - 9.
Our away match was defeated by the extreme heat today. We travelled to Wanstead Central's green in Nutter lane but after discussions with their captain and bearing in mind Bowls England's recent advice to not play matches in extreme heat but to rearrange fixtures, our game was called off. We looked at rearranging the fixture but we couldn't find an alternative date to play the match so following Bowls England's advice we agreed to share the points. We were invited to stay for tea and cake and as it was Irene’s 95th birthday we did. A good afternoon was had by all despite not being able to play. We returned home and some of us were delighted to find running water and a shower at home after the recent water outage caused by Thames Water's burst water mains issues affecting the local area.
A hot afternoon saw Hainault's two teams provide another outstanding performance. Despite the hot weather Hainault kept their cool and got the job done comfortably, winning on both rinks to secure five points. A big thank you to Maureen & Lawrence for stepping in at late notice. Well played everybody - team one Maureen, Ali, Lawrence & Karol, team two Roz, Mollie, Janet & Linda.
Our next match is on Friday 10th July at 2:30 pm away to Wanstead Central in the Barnes League, so get your names down ladies.
The weather threatened rain but fortunately it held off. Both teams had fantastic results winning on both rinks securing five points. A big thank you to Steve O'Brien and Andrew Higgins who filled in at short notice. Lady players were Janet Doe, Bev Higgins & Karol O'Brien on one rink and Molly Edwards, Sandy Cook & Linda Shepherd on the other rink. The next ladies match against Harold Hill is away on 17 June and we need ladies to put their names down to indicate their availability as soon as possible.
